George I Ingraham Seney a noted philanthropist died at the Grand Hotel in New York from heart failure after weeks of illness. Born 1826 in Astoria, he rose from banking to presidencies, and donated millions to Wesleyan, Emory, Long Island Historical Society, and Brooklyn hospitals. His philanthropy funded the Seney Stovall Chapel at Lucy Cobb Institute in Athens, with the gift totaling thirteen thousand dollars including matching funds. Memorial exercises at Lucy Cobb Institute will honor him next Thursday, the founder General Cobb’s birthday.
