In Estevan Saskatchewan on September 30 the Royal Canadian Mounted Police patrolled debris strewn streets after a fierce battle between striking miners and authorities. Police fired on the mob, five men fell, and efforts to resume the clash failed.
A holdup attempt at an alleged speak easy in Warren Ohio today sparked violence leaving Earl Gamble 40 of Warren dead and two bandits injured in a crash. George Spraggins 26 of Cleveland died at Warren City Hospital from his crash injuries while George Barret and John David of Cleveland remained in critical condition. Barret was not expected to recover.
William Perry age 64 of Madison Street shot himself in Greenlawn Cemetery at the foot of his son Ray who died in the Millfield mine disaster. Despondent over his loss he had arranged his funeral and left a note directing to call McLaughlin Brothers. He leaves a widow and four daughters.
Police investigated the death of Newell H. Black 27 of Grand Rapids Michigan who was brought to his mother in law Mrs. Ida Moon's Xenia Ohio home with a bullet wound beneath the heart. A man named Grubbs from Princeton Indiana drove Black’s car and vanished. A Dayton area constable reported firing on a car when three men attempted a holdup.
TEHAUACANA Tex Sept 30 Two students Pete Price Hearn and Fan Briggs were sentenced to five years in prison after confessing to holding up a taxi driver and taking $2. Hearn is the son of a Methodist minister and Briggs was co-captain of the Tehanacana Methodist College football team. Both were studying to be ministers when funds ran short and they turned to crime.
Paris cabi net says Premier Pierre Laval will leave France to visit President Hoover and reach New York by October 20. He may sail on the liner Ile de France October 16.

Arthur Kammer a 36 year old college graduate and war veteran who was scheduled for arraignment in police court on a forgery charge shot himself in the head with a pistol in Cleveland.
Washington September 30 Bishop James Cannon Jr denied receiving funds during the 1928 presidential campaign from Claudius Huston's account as suggested in testimony before the Senate Campaign Investigating Committee on August 23.
Athens County prosecutor says a rubber mallet used in a Sugar Creek incident explains the fatal skull fracture of John Kenzie Gooding a Unity freshman. John W. Genter 17 provided a statement describing the fight and the mallet attack before his interview with Prosecutor Bolin.
