Energy efficiency upgrades approved for Athens County buildings
Athens County Commissioners approved more than 4 million dollars in energy efficiency projects to retrofit 19 buildings including EMS, 317 Board, and the dog shelter with LED lights and new HVAC. Johnson Controls will oversee, with energy savings and reimbursements totaling about 2.38 million and a net county cost near 332 thousand, funding via municipal leases. Elevator upgrades at key sites add about 277,860. The work may take 12 months to complete.

Athens County 911 gets acting director on medical leave
Athens County Sheriff Lt Aaron Maynard was named acting 911 director by the county Commissioners after a closed session with Sheriff Rod Ney Smith.
