Court Street shops in Athens showcase white bunny fur mittens bold rainwear and clever reversibles as fall fashion opens with beaver fur jackets three piece suits brushed wool socks and corduroy hats plus new colognes and jewelry trends including bib necklaces metallic snoods and jeweled hair clips for campus and social wear.
Athens shopkeepers report the Bib Necklace as a best seller matching the new fall dresses. Shops showcase varying bib styles along with rhinestone clips pins and large gold bracelets to balance the black dress trend and include colorful South American bead strands and antique finish gold earrings.
The Athens Flower Show awarded ribbons across many blooms including Asters Calendula Canna Chrysanthemums and more. Mrs. E L Jones Mrs. J K Vickers Mrs. Sisson Mrs. Wolfe and others won multiple firsts and seconds with Miss Laura Bailey and Mrs. E W Shelter among organizers and prize presenters.
The Athens Garden Club Flower Show drew visitors curious about bamboo plants in gardens. A Bamboo Plant known to growers as polygonum amplexicule rubra was displayed with feathery purplish blossoms. Notables visiting included Dr. Edith Wray and Irma Voigt among others at local addresses. Mr. G. W. Baker from Pleasantville visited his daughter-in-law at 248 East State Street.

Nine teen year old violinist Arthur Tabachnick is slated to perform Sunday evening in Memorial Auditorium at 8:00 p m. He will open with Chaconne by Vitali, then Bruch Concerto in D minor, Chopin Nocturne in C sharp minor, De Falla selections, Ries La Capricciosa, Debussy Beau Soir, Blech Nigun, and Sarasate Zigeunerweisen. Tabachnick studies with Mischa Mischakoff in New York this winter. proceeds benefit his violin studies and are sponsored by the Athens Woman's Music Club and Ohio University honorary musical societies. Tickets are on sale.
