Prominent Athenians Press R R Discriminating Rates

A cohort of Athens citizens appeals to President Monarrat of the Hocking Valley R. R. protesting discriminatory rates on the Lancaster Logan Athens route. The note ties Athens rents to property values and a growing housing demand amid looming whiskey industry incentives and political shifts.

Ready for Two Cent Fare

The Hocking Valley sells round trip tickets from Columbus to Logan 49.6 miles for 81.60 and to Lancaster 31.5 miles for 75. this implies profits of 115 to 145 cents per mile round trip. The same rate applies between Marion and Columbus. A 1.15 cent per mile interurban rate could enable a 2 cent passenger rate law next session. The paper urges uniform 1 1/2 cent miles across lines, cites proven low costs, and commends Hocking Valley while hoping for similar reductions to Athens Pomeroy and Toledo.
