Athens Conservancy expands Skunk Run Preserve with new 2 acre parcel

Athens Conservancy buys 2 more acres along Brandeberry Road to extend the Skunk Run Preserve in Troy Two, boosting total preserve area to 40 acres. The $25,200 purchase from John and Caroline Enoch was aided by a Clean Ohio grant, with the group also receiving $66,217 in summer funds to acquire two tracts. The parcels border a former rail grade now owned by Athens County and slated for a non motorized trail, helping protect Skunk Run’s high quality fish habitat. Closing on the second grant funded parcel, an 18 acre tract on Luhrig Road to be named Brookville Preserve, is set for Oct 19 and will also adjoin the rail grade trail corridor. The land includes a forested wetland and open space behind the trail development plans.
