Christ of Monserrate Shrine Reaches Bogota by Cable Car
In Bogota Colombia worshippers ascend about 2000 feet to the Christ of Monserrate shrine. The teleferico cable car carries up to 25 per gondola for a five minute ride offering a panoramic view of the city 8000 feet above sea level. Thousands visit weekly with roughly six hundred thousand annually. The site began as a 1620 chapel and in 1920 the present temple and cross image were installed.
