American officers say a four nation force including Korea Australia South Vietnam and U S Marines could halt infiltration across the demilitarized zone. The plan faces multi government approval and would total about three to four regiments 10 000 to 16 000 troops.
Ohio's weekend traffic toll rose to at least 33 fatalities, marking the year's worst nonholiday weekend. The 1966 record of 31 deaths, reached twice, seemed likely to be eclipsed as Friday evening to Sunday night yielded a 54 hour period with many deaths, while recent weekends added dozens more.

Police hunt a white 30 year old gunman after two gun battles with Campbell County officer Set. Howard Baxter. Baxter was wounded in the shoulder and side during a weekend camping area patrol near California Kentucky. Authorities in Kentucky Ohio West Virginia and Indiana spread the alert and described the suspect as armed and fleeing eastbound on Ky 8 in a blue car.
Richard Gordon described feeling tired with a high heart rate before his space walk on Gemini 11. He said tying the Agena with a 100-foot cord took about 30 minutes, longer than expected, and sweat blinded him as the walk was cut short. Charles Conrad Jr. assisted in preparations and cooling.
House Republicans unveiled a rival antipoverty proposal led by Gerald R. Ford. The plan estimates 1.75 billion in total cost with 750 million covered by state local governments and private industry, aiming to reduce federal spending amid inflation. Ford announced the plan in Grand Rapids Michigan.

Chancellor Ludwig Erhard arrives in Washington for talks with President Johnson and U.S. officials. He asks to postpone Bonn’s purchase of U.S. military equipment, citing West Germany cannot pay more than half of the $675 million yearly obligation to support 200000 U.S. soldiers. Discussions include nuclear sharing and space cooperation.
A state court judge threw out the assault and battery indictment against former special deputy Thomas L. Coleman in the wounding of Rev. Richard Morrisroe during racial violence in Lowndes County. The ruling prevents reindictment on that charge but keeps open the possibility of a future more serious indictment. Morrisroe, 26, was critically wounded and seminarian Jonathan Daniels was killed in the Aug. 20, 1965 incident.
Leonard Benton Jr., a 51 year old ordained minister who drifted to the Bowery, died Sunday from burns after teenagers doused him with kerosene and set him afire. Five youths aged 12 to 15 were arrested as juveniles. Benton had moved to New York from Kentucky 13 years ago after leaving the church.
