Supermarkets Propose Beef and Pork Specials This Weekend
Beef and pork will appear on many dining tables Sunday as supermarkets offer specials. Sirloin is cheaper in scattered areas per an Associated Press survey, with steaks featured while other beef cuts remain largely unchanged. Pork chops are one to six cents lower ahead of fall price shifts, and pork supplies are expected to approach 1956 levels before another rise later in the year. Many stores will also feature turkeys and chickens along with fresh produce like cabbage, cauliflower, onions, peppers, endive, escarole, radishes, collards, kale and potatoes, which are described as outstanding buys. Potatoes are plentiful enough the Agriculture Department considers restricting imports.

Making a Bed In The Good Old Days Versus Now
The piece contrasts historic bed making with modern beds. It notes earlier times required sewing a cotton sack and collecting goose feathers, with geese care and years to accumulate fill. Today people buy engineered mattresses from furniture stores for a quick, routine rest.
