County Board To Go Deeper Into Matter
Gallia County Board of Elections met on Saturday to hear a challenge by Attorney R. M. Switzer over petitions seeking an anti beer sales vote in Gallipolis on November 8. Switzer argued only 742 signatures met law while 1,070 were required, citing Section 62 12 62. The board had earlier accepted petitions and prepared ballots, and set a hearing date to allow signers and anti liquor advocates to be represented. The clerk was asked to secure a ruling from Secretary of State William J Kennedy on the board’s authority to accept or reject petitions. If Kennedy’s ruling goes against the wet side, signatures may be challenged. Some signatures were alleged to be duplicated or made with a lead pencil, alleged to violate the law.
