Senator Nixon campaigns across the West and to Missoula while appealing to the nation to let the Republican National Committee decide his fate. Ike calls the message magnificent as telegrams and calls flood in, with Nixon denying personal gain from a funded expense account and citing an audit.
Gov. Adlai Stevenson rallying in Baltimore links Sen. Robert A. Taft to inflation and the price spiral while urging a four point plan to curb spending and tighten wage and price controls. He defends military spending as the cause of high prices and refuses to comment on Nixon's fundraising case.
McArthur coal operator B. H. Henderson about age 64 died instantly when a northbound Chesapeake and Ohio diesel freight struck his truck at a crossing on Route 160 near Hamden. The sunlit afternoon saw the whistle blowing as witnesses reported no slowdown. Engineer E. Sheppard and conductor E. G. Shriner, both of Logan, were identified by Sheriff William Brown.
Caudle testifies that McGrath warned of the White House’s power while alleging the President now believes firing Caudle was a grave injustice. The White House denies any change in view. Tubby says there is no truth in the claim and offers no comment on Connelly’s delay call in a St. Louis fraud case.
Federal court in Cleveland indicted twenty two men on draft evasion charges. Seventeen are identified as Jehovahs Witnesses. U.S. Attorney John J. Kane Jr. called it the largest batch of draft cases since World War II. Brothers Edward and Frank Krzynowek of Brookfield are among the defendants and said to be ministers.
Senator Richard Nixon, Republican vice presidential candidate, will speak in Athens, Logan, and Lancaster early in October. Dean L. Dollison, Hocking County Republican chairman, announced the plan after being told by Harold Cotten, a Nixon campaign worker. Dates will be released by State Republican Headquarters. Nixon will be accompanied by his wife on the tour.
Two leaders of the Communist Party, Simon W. Gerson and Isidore Begun, were acquitted in a conspiracy case under the Smith Act. Thirteen defendants remain on trial. the judge cited lack of sufficient evidence for the acquittals. Gerson, 43, once worked for The Daily Worker and was a NY State Communist Party legislative secretary and a federal candidate.
Funeral services will be held in London Ohio Thursday for Lamar P. Wilson 79 a former Madison County auditor who died at his home Tuesday.
C Wayland Brooks Illinois Republican official calls for Adlai E Stevenson to withdraw from the campaign over use of a special cash fund to augment state salaries. He urges a congressional probe to reveal fund sources and expenditures and cites a precedent set during Nixon Eisenhower race. Stevenson defends the fund as open and not improper.
In Grand Island Nebraska Democratic vice presidential candidate John Sparkman challenged Eisenhower’s claim that the GOP backs the price support law. He cited Farm parity votes noting House passage 207-121 with Democrats favored and Republicans split 74 to 85. He highlighted Banking and Currency Committee member Jesse Wolcott and eight other Republicans voting against the bill.
Senate Internal Security Subcommittee disclosed that actress Judy Holliday was questioned at closed sessions last spring about her connections to Communist fronts. Holliday said she acted irresponsibly and later hired people to investigate her own actions. She noted she had learned from the experience and had won the 1951 Academy Award for Born Yesterday.
Cleveland Ore and Coal Exchange manager forecasts this season total water shipments at 75 million tons, with an additional five million tons moved entirely by rail. W. J. McGarry spoke before the Great Lakes Regional Advisory Board, a shippers group.
Seven cities led by Jackson and Marion filed to the Ohio Supreme Court to overturn a utilities commission decision granting a $1,032,600 rate increase for the Ohio Associated Telephone Co. The order, issued February 20, cited inadequate return on investment.

Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower and Sen. Richard M. Nixon planned a Wheeling, West Virginia, session to decide on keeping Nixon as the Republican vice presidential nominee. James Hagerty said Knowland and Adams discussed with Arthur Summerfield in Cleveland while Nixon spoke from Missoula. West Virginia official Walter Hallanan said GOP supporters urged Nixon’s retention for strength and urged not to drop him from the ticket.
Gov. Adlai Stevenson will speak in Ohio on Oct 3. He will fly to Cincinnati for a luncheon and deliver a major address in Cleveland that evening. Horstman said Stevenson canceled a Dayton stop and other whistlestops to avoid overlapping Gen. Eisenhower's Ohio tour.
A 16 000 crowd in Public Hall watched Senator Nixon defend receiving an $18000 private fund from businessmen. He asserted no improper profit and urged voters to trust his honesty amid questions. Eisenhower later praised Nixon as courageous.

The note exchanges with Moscow over German unity showed no new obstacles to an all German government chosen by free elections, while Bonn may approve the European Defense Community despite French fears.

The Circleville Herald increased prices on Tuesday. Single copies now cost seven cents and are sold only at the Herald office. Carrier delivery jumps to 35 cents per week and rural mail subscriptions rise by one dollar per year in all zones.
The Ohio utilities commission relaxed its gas heating installation freeze by approving 35 877 new customers for this winter across 22 distributing companies. Two firms Newark Consumers Gas Co and Toledo Edison Co were not authorized. The commission called the gas shortage an emergency and ordered a report next April 21. Ohio Fuel Gas is to add 13 772 new customers split between new construction and conversions. Commercial installations face a limit of 400 000 BTU per hour.
