Bedraggled thousands crowded trains and stations seeking a ride home after the Dempsey Tunney bout at Soldiers Field. Tearful crowds, loud praise, and late traffic jams followed a record prize fight crowd of about 145000, with Tunney later crowned champion and Dempsey blamed for some fouls.
Tex Rickard promoter announced gross receipts of the Dempsey Tunney fight as 2 658 660 dollars. The attendance was not announced but the figure suggests about 140 000 spectators attended the event.

Logan Sept 23. For the fifth time in recent months an attempt was made to rob the Midway filling station near Enterprise Wednesday night. An unidentified motorist seized a tire from in front of the station but was detected by Don Feathers the proprietor who frightened the man into dropping the tire and making his escape. The motorist fled without his license number.
Henry Vanderwyst aged 22 from Lorain was sentenced to ten years in the Ohio penitentiary after pleading guilty to robbing a local chain store in Cleveland.
Cleveland dispatch reports the county grand jury returned indictments against 41 defendants on September 23, with Arthur Gardiner the noted "taped face" bandit among those charged.
G W Burson had left arm removed above the elbow at Holger hospital. He failed to regain consciousness hours after surgery and officials fear the end may come soon.
