Commander M. Scott Carpenter, the first to live in both space environments, says life on the ocean bottom is very tough yet holds potential for future exploration. He has lived 205 feet beneath the Pacific off La Jolla as part of a Navy Sealab program, comparing weightlessness and work in neutral buoyancy to his space experiences.

U S Helicopter Shot Down During Rescue Attempt
A U S helicopter with four crewmen was shot down in North Vietnam while attempting to rescue a downed American pilot. The pilot and crew were reported missing as North Vietnamese forces moved toward the site. A second helicopter was driven off by antiaircraft fire and another F105 pilot was believed killed after a separate crash.
