Edwin Sayre Finsterwald 66 former Athens chief of police died suddenly at his home on 9 S Congress St. He served 14 years as a special police officer at Ohio University and led Athens police from 1928 to 1948. He also worked as state highway inspector and as a special investigator for the county prosecutor. He had run a restaurant dry cleaning plant and a coal mine before his police career. He was a 1913 Athens High School and 1917 Ohio University graduate. He played sports at OU and served in World War I as a first sergeant. He was a member of Sigma Pi First Methodist Church Elks American Legion Varsity O and the Republican executive committee.
