Believe Old Glory Came Down When Out of Control
ST. JOHNS Newfoundland Sept 21 Lloyd W Bertauds Fokker monoplane Old Glory came down out of control en route from Maine to Rome and her three occupants died soon after it was believed today after the return to Newfoundland waters of the 8S 8 Kyle which searched for the missing men. The Kyle put into Bay Roberts last night. The wreckage recovered at sea consisted of one almost complete side of Old Glorys single wing. The recovered piece was 38 feet long and was found drifting vertically with about four feet above water. There was evidence the plane had alighted with tremendous impact which had torn it to pieces giving the occupants a scant chance for their lives. The fact that the wing tanks had not been drained and that one was still indicated no effort had been made to remain aboard.
