Patricia Hearst, held on bank robbery charges, was captured with fellow SLA members in Redwood City California after a 19 month manhunt. Her father Randolph Hearst said she seemed happy and ready to return home as FBI and police described the arrest as unplanned. She appeared at San Francisco court, then was taken to San Mateo County Jail with William and Emily Harris.

Ohio tax workers convicted in phantom state payroll probe

Panel widens minimum tax in major tax revision move
House Ways and Means Committee approved a bill expanding the minimum tax to raise more revenue. The plan would lift the rate to 14 percent and cut the exemption to 20 000 with the excess reducing the exemption dollar for dollar. Regular tax deductions would be halved and itemized deductions over 70 percent of adjusted gross income added. The rival minimum taxable income proposal was rejected 27 to 8.
