Illinois Pickets Stopped By Officers At Coal Mine
In Wilmington Illinois on Thursday 1500 Progressive Miners Union pickets were halted by 40 sheriffs deputies and Illinois state highway police at the Northern Illinois Coal company strip mine. Three men were wounded yesterday in the picketing battle as 225 day workers reported for a $3 per day wage while pickets push for a $6.10 scale. Pickets moved to Dwight where a council met as new forces arrived from central Illinois. No evidence was reported of injuries beyond the three wounded.
