Pawpaw Festival Draws Crowds Despite Rain at Lake Snowden
Rain swept the 17th Pawpaw Festival at Lake Snowden but crowds still packed the site on Saturday. Jen Lintz of Cincinnati visited with her children Elaina and Miles, who geocache near their home and often harvest pawpaws. Organizers said the fruit is delicious and nutritious as bands played and food sold.

Athens Chamber steak fry sets attendance, sponsorship record
The 21st annual Athens Area Chamber of Commerce Steak Fry and Auction drew over 200 attendees, a record turnout, while sponsorship topped nearly $24,000, surpassing last year. Proceeds support the Love Athens Keep It Local campaign and about 40 nonprofit groups. High bids went to chef dinners and football packages.

Athens Police Chief Tom Pyle said Mill Street events were several house parties, not a riot. Jerome Watkins Jr. was jailed at a party where a gun was alleged but not found, pleaded no contest to obstructing official business, and received a $100 fine plus costs and a 30 day suspended jail term.
