Stolen Money Recovered After Pleasant Hill Church Robbery

Hocking County Sheriff says part of the $126 stolen from Pleasant Hill Church on Aug. 24 has been recovered. A local resident found $108 in a black bag along a township road. the finder is unnamed. An armed masked man interrupted services, took funds, forced a church member to drive him away, then fled into the woods.

Robbery Bond Set For Columbus Man In Kroger Theft

Danny Walker, 21, of Columbus, one of three men indicted by the Meigs County grand jury for the July 10 armed robbery of Kroger Store manager Jack Ambrose, appeared in Meigs County Common Pleas Court. Bond set at $20,000, hearing date to be set by Judge John Bacon. Walker returned to jail after arraignment.

Wives Picket Over Food Stamp Delays in Meigs County

About 50 wives of Southern Ohio Coal Co. miners picketed the Meigs County Welfare Department in Middleport protesting welfare officials’ delay in issuing food stamps while miners were on strike. They seek stamps until payday. officials say eligibility hinges on miners returning to work.

Census Immunization Survey Planned This Month

The Bureau of the Census will survey a sample of area households this month to measure immunization levels for diseases such as measles influenza smallpox polio diphtheria whooping cough tetanus tuberculosis and mumps. Interviewer Mrs. Patricia Hinkle will conduct the survey alongside routine employment questions for the Department of Labor.

Hocking Man Is Charged With Gambling Charge

A Hocking County man, Robert Harden of Old McArthur Road, was freed on a 500 bond after police seized gambling equipment at his property. He faces a charge of operating and controlling a place permitting gambling. Sheriff Paul Hartman, with the prosecutor and BCI, did not detail the equipment or possible accomplices.

Four Women Ordained Episcopal Priests in Washington

Four women defied church rule to be ordained as Episcopal priests in Washington at St. Stephen and the Incarnation Church. The ceremony drew protests and a boycott call from Bishop William Creighton, with about 1,000 attendees and 50 priests participating in the laying on of hands. The four, Alison Palmer, Lee McGee, Betty Rosenberg, and Diane Tickell, include deacons who hold notable positions, while church authorities debate the ordination issue ahead of the September 1976 General Convention.

Bankers to Meet at Athens Center for Group 7 Fall Meeting

Group 7 of the Ohio Bankers Association will hold its fall meeting in Athens at Baker Center Thursday. Between 300 and 400 attendees are expected. A business meeting starts at 4 p.m. Ohio University President Charles Ping will welcome at dinner, 6:30 p.m. Main speaker is Carl Winters of General Motors. Livestock Prices Vary At Gallipolis Auction

At Ohio Valley Livestock Co in Gallipolis stocker steers sold from 17.50 to 40 per hundredweight. Stocker heifer calves brought 15 to 34.50, canner and cutter cows 14.50 to 23, Holstein cows 18 to 24.50, commercial bulls 21.50 to 26.20, real calves 34 to 49, and culls 34 and down. Head prices included stock cows 100 to 135, stock cows and calves 140 to 260, stock bulls 85 to 180, and baby calves 18.

Order Forbids Women Priests In Cleveland Diocese

Bishop John Burt of the Ohio Episcopal Diocese plans to issue an order forbidding Rev Dalton Downs from allowing six irregularly ordained women priests to celebrate communion at Emmanuel Church. If ignored, a Godly admonition could bar the service and trigger a church trial similar to the Beebe case. The women include four ordained in Washington DC.

Judge Takes Course for State Trial Judges

Lowell B. Howard, an Athens County Common Pleas Court judge, completed a two week advanced education session for state trial judges at the University of Nevada. Breathing Clinic Opens at O Bleness Hospital Athens
