Athens High opens season Friday with McArthur clash

Athens High School coach Harry Lackey, in his first year, labels Friday’s opener against McArthur as the toughest game of the year. The Bulldogs feature a 155-pound line and a 150-pound backfield, while McArthur under Bill Stulte fields a lighter, greener eleven. Weathered by rain, their prep included mud practices and a mix of passing and punting plans as both teams seek an early edge. The Army Air Corps issued bids for tiny radio controlled target ships rated at 150 mph.
