Eight hostages were killed and 30 rescued as police and National Guard stormed Attica State Prison after a four day uprising by about 1,200 inmates. Four rescued hostages were seriously injured. fate of others unclear.
In Washington on NBC Today and at the White House discussion, United States Chamber of Commerce president Archie Davis urged continuing wage and price restraints under the Cost of Living Council led by John Connally, clashing with AFL-CIO president George Meany who called for a three sided tribunal.
