Pueblo Told to Snooping Near Soviet Ships Near Japan
The USS Pueblo was ordered to visually inspect and photograph Soviet naval vessels near Japan as a follow up to electronic surveillance of North Korea. The plan, code named Idythmic One, would have sent the ship from Sasebo through the Tsushima Straits to zones 13 to 60 miles offshore, risking detection by Soviet units. The mission was halted when North Korea captured the Pueblo in North Korean waters on Jan 23.
