Charleston WV Sept 12 Authorities search West Virginia for 11 year old Ralph Eddy in connection with the killing of his parents Rev James F Eddy and Mrs Eddy at their Ripley area home. Rev Eddy shot in bed and Mrs Eddy beaten with shotgun stock near their home as neighbors heard a car motor and dog howling.
In Hanford California Manuel Madruga a 57 year old man chastised his son Andrew with a wooden stick and time honored line. The father collapsed and died of heart disease as the punishment did not descend. Andrew survived the incident with shock.
Four men, who arrived in town and sought shelter at dawn, bound and gagged Marshal Paul Coffin, robbed him of $8 and three guns, and locked him in the city jail before fleeing.
A woman is dead and her husband seriously injured after a collision between an automobile and a train in Paulding. Mr and Mrs Henry Foor were the victims in the incident reported September 12.
The Polish balloon crew Captain Francisek Hynek and Zbygniew Burzynski unofficially won the 1933 Gordon Bennett Race after flying about 800 miles from Chicago. Ward T. Van Orman and Frank Trotter, lost in Ontario, were rescued. they suffered from stomaine poisoning and slept in the cabin of James Barrett before expected return aboard a Canadian National train once recovered.
Athens County farmers considering signing wheat allotment contracts as part of a government program to cut 1934 production will meet Thursday night at 7 o'clock in the Athens Grange Hall. County extension agent T H Johnson organized the event with OSU's Paul Fankhauser to provide details and offer contract applications.
The bodies of aviators H. W. Spud Manning and Charles T. Otto and Chicago woman Majenta Gerard were recovered in Lake Michigan after their autogyro plunged during a flight from South Bend to Chicago. Found near Indiana Harbor after a search involving planes and Coast Guard boats.
Melville Schworm, news photographer who covered Sundays American Legion parade here, will return to Athens on Home-Coming Day October 21 to film parade floats decorated houses and the football game. E R Custer announced Schworm will be in Athens all day to capture events.
Dr Charles William Super former president of Ohio University marked his ninety first birthday at his home on West Union Street. Active days include writing and reading and frequent walks around Athens and the campus. He moved to Athens in 1879 as a Greek professor and during his presidency the Department of Music and Commerce was installed and the first state appropriation for a normal department was received.
Water will be off on the West Side tomorrow from 7 30 to 10 00 due to the installation of a new main by city service department workers. Streets affected include West Union from Post Office west Riverside Coulson Moore Factory and South Cemetery during the two and a half hour period.
Howard Guthrie and his son Walter Guthrie were arrested by Athena police after a fire in a one room house on Central Avenue. Firemen extinguished the blaze at 8 45 p m with chemicals and investigators say coal oil was used to start it. The father was arrested in connection with the fire and the son was taken into custody after threatening his parent. Both remained in City Jail with no charges yet filed.
Thomas M. Wolfe of the Athens Chamber of Commerce described the N L R A as a framework for fair competition and self government. He urged industry to draft and enforce codes including a coal code, detailing wage scales and work hours for the district and noting 800 codes expected nationwide.

LOUIS September 12 A link between encephalitis and infantile paralysis appears to have been established through experiments by Dr Edward Carl Rosenow professor of experimental bacteriology at the University of Minnesota at DePaul Hospital He declined to comment but colleagues say he is making remarkable progress in sleeping sickness research.
A 71 year old bricklayer William V Hall of Cleveland testified in a deposition as a defense witness for the Ohio Fuel Gas Company in a $1 200 000 suit filed by the state over the office building explosion last year in Columbus The witness said gas was in the ground near the state office building 33 years ago.

Peek and consumers' counsel Frederic C. Howe call for frank disclosure of tax components in retail cotton goods and condemn lax billing by manufacturers under NRA codes.

Athens County treasurer G. I. Gorham announced that real estate tax collections for the second half of the year totaled about $345,900. First half receipts amounted to $392,030. The treasurer’s office is currently receiving payments on the second half of personal taxes.
Four men arrested Sunday night by Sheriff Charles Stratton and Constable Frank White were fined ten dollars and costs by Magistrate C. H. Porter. The group, including Bob Skinner Luh rig James Strausbaugh Greens Run Lester Bobo and Art Sherrick Millfield, paid the fines and were released.
In Cleveland on September 12, with a threatened street car strike, the Street Car Men's Union and the Cleveland Railway Company entered a second phase of discussions focused on wage increases after the union postponed the demand.
Cleveland officials report county grand jury seized all corporate records of the defunct Union and Guardian Trust Banks as it prepared to investigate the closed institutions. The move follows an in suitu inquiry into their affairs and finances.

Secretary of the Treasury Woodin will resume his duties in Washington Thursday after months of illness. Undersecretary Acheson will take a two week vacation to Canada while Woodin is back at the desk. Woodin has fully recovered from the throat ailment that kept him away.
Clarence A. Dorger a former Cincinnati banker convicted in bank failure cases must stay jailed at least six months longer. The state parole board which had granted a parole ending Sept 15 rescinded it after reviewing Dorger's conduct. Warden Thomas noted Dorger registered at a Lancaster hotel with his wife and family while he was supposed to be working as a trusty from the Junction City Brick plant.
A London report says a drive began to recruit 100 university students to act as a bodyguard for Professor Albert Einstein who is in refuge on Debass Cosa. The effort follows concerns over his safety while in exile.
