President hopeful Herbert Hoover struggles to finish his Newark campaign address delaying a planned two day fishing trip. He has spent weeks drafting his acceptance speech and revised it repeatedly as he outlines aviation policy and comment on the Trans-Continental Air Derby.
Moscow dispatch reports Chukhnovsky, accompanying the ice breaker Keassin, made a successful flight yesterday during the search for the Italia envelope crew and the Roald Amundsen party. He has begun another flight.
In Coke Otto near Hamilton Vernon Lamb recalls three months of misfortune. Infant Pauline Lamb died with Hester Lamb, aged 6, previously killed by an auto. The mother died shortly after Pauline’s birth, and a twin brother Paul also died.

John Dowler, Ohio division engineer, said the Plains detour near Athens is not the state’s responsibility as the reconstruction elsewhere in the north approach dictates. He noted the contractor controlled one way traffic through the city while outside sections remain open, and that dust control is not a state obligation since the detour was not state authorized or required by state construction.
Louis Wilcox former state dry agent for the Lorain Elyria District was arrested in Cleveland on charges of bribery and impersonating a Federal officer. Federal agents said he took 25 dollars from a bootlegger known as Joe in a shake down. Wilcox denied bribery and said the package handed by Joe was unknown. He lives in Lakewood and served four years in the state dry force before discharge on August 21 by Prohibition Commissioner McDonald.
U R T F Hudson of Springfield is named acting judge of the Springfield municipal court for Friday September 14 by Governor Donahey. The one day appointment makes Hudson a legal “judge” briefly, replacing Judge Golden C Davis who will be absent that day.
Washington September 12 Herbert Hoover told a delegation of 150 members of the National Woman's Party that he has ordered close friends to investigate the impact of a proposed equal rights constitutional amendment. He supports abolishing discrimination but cannot endorse the proposal until the investigation reports.
Columbus Ohio September 12 Myers Y Cooper Republican nominee for Governor faces charges from Henry Brunner Democratic state executive committee chairman that Cooper is stealing Donahey era highway reforms and offering no new ideas Brunner says the Democratic administration has already built the best marked highways and detours and Cooper seeks credit for it
James K. Mercer of Columbus, a legislative historian, died at age 75 at his home after a two month illness. He was noted for his work on state legislative history and public records.

Court inspection approved keeping the True Farm tent at Mine 255 in place due to highway distance. The Mine 281 tent near Modoc must be moved to at least 600 feet from the highway and into an orchard to meet the injunction limits. The order restricts tents near highways and within 200 yards of highways near plaintiff properties.
On the Port Clinton Camp Perry road near Camp Perry three miles west, a vehicle carrying soldiers from the second United States Infantry overturned in a ditch last night. One soldier died, three were injured, and the others were reported by authorities.
Governor Alfred E. Smith has had ten days of rest and light office time, golf, and extra sleep to prepare for a two week westward campaign tour starting Sunday. Mayor Jimmy Walker says Smith is in excellent physical condition and spirits. Smith will deliver seven speeches in just over two weeks, including a Rochester address at the Democratic state convention in October.
A 20 000 gallon gasoline tank at the K and C Oil Company filling station exploded in Canton injuring one man and causing 15000 to 20000 dollars in property damage. Carl Wanamaker was hospitalized with serious burns. Firemen battled the blaze over three hours, keeping it contained to one tank despite two other tanks nearby.
Charges that influential politicians for the underworld have united to create deplorable vice conditions in Cleveland are made in city wide survey reports presented to City Manager W R Hopkins and Safety Director Edwin D Barry. The survey started over a year ago was conducted by representatives of a New York City social service organization at the request of a Cleveland social welfare group.
A Ramsey of Jacksonville suffered severe facial and body burns from a powder explosion in Mine No. 281 at Modoc. The injury will keep him from work for weeks. The blast followed a misfired shot pulled from its chamber. a nearby spark ignited powder. Ramsey was moved to Dr. von Scheele’s office for treatment. He had recently relocated from Kentucky to Jacksonville.
Senator Joseph T. Robinson arrived in Charlotte to speak as Democratic vice presidential nominee. A luncheon with local leaders was planned and he would discuss farm problems. In Raleigh he defended Alfred E. Smith and, amid Wilsonian memories, denounced Republican acts and called Harding the worst misfit who ever served in the White House.
Judge K M Landis called a meeting at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York for noon September 17 to arrange the 1928 World Series. Presidents of the two major leagues and reps from seven clubs in pennant contention will attend. American League invites New York and Philadelphia, while the National League will be represented by St Louis New York Chicago Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.
Ohio University won a Phi Beta Kappa charter at the Sixteenth National Council session held at Ohio Wesleyan. Charters were granted to Emory University and five other colleges. Ohio’s chapter to be installed in early autumn. The organization aims to recognize high scholarship and will fund a $400,000 endowment with $100,000 for headquarters at William and Mary.
