Coolidge Honored at Brookings Farm Library Dedication

President Coolidge stopped at Brookings South Dakota to dedicate a library at the state agricultural school before resuming his eastward trip. He received a doctor of science degree after the address focusing on religion and education and Lincoln's legacy for agricultural colleges. State Automobile Association May Take Local Club

Baloon Entry Hispania Stars in Rainy Gordon Bennett Run

In Detroit on September 10 the balloon Hispania led the field for the Gordon Bennett trophy as heavy rain and a northeast wind pushed entries toward the Atlantic seaboard. Other competitors rose in five minute intervals after the start.

Jail Break Foiled in Athens County Jail

Sheriff William Williams foiled an escape attempt at the Athens County Jail Saturday morning as five prisoners were found sawing bars from cells. The inmates included Howard Bowman Neal Bowman Sowers of Nelsonville Charles Muliron of Millfield and Phil Sapp of Millfield with sentences for robbery killing a bull and related charges. County officials found five saw blades concealed inside the jail during a search.

Coal Output Rises in Ohio Report

Ohio Coal bureau at Cleveland reports total coal production of 23 755 022 tons for the season ending September 5, a higher figure than most seasons since 1924. Weekly Department of Commerce estimates for August show 9 098 000, 9 140 000, and 9 744 000 tons for weeks ending August 13, 26 and 27. The American Railway Report indicates continued car loading increases, and the National Association of Purchasing Agents Bulletin urges stock preservation with a 55 060 600 ton on-hand estimate and urged buying cost now.
