Republican Sweep Reported in California and Maine

The Republicans won a decisive victory in California with the governor and all four congressmen elected and most state officers chosen. In Maine the legislature is strongly Republican in both houses, signaling continued party influence.

Fusion Critique of Ring Tactics by York Township Republican

In a signed defense dated Sept 8 1879 a York Township Republican rebuts narcotic charges of rings and fraud in the county ticket. He endorses six nominees including Warden Coe Tompkins Burson Allison and Bower while praising Col Baker and Kurtz for integrity. He argues fusion is a Democrat device and urges voters to back the entire Republican ticket.
