Youngstown Teachers Still Strike Despite Court Order
Striking Youngstown public school employees defied a Mahoning County court order and continued a shutdown affecting 24,000 pupils. Union leaders and school officials were to appear for a hearing on a permanent injunction as teachers seek an 8 percent raise and challenge the residency rule. In Campbell, the local Education Association rejected the board’s latest offer, demanding rehiring of six dismissed teachers amid wage talks.

Kissinger nomination faces no serious trouble over wiretap records
Washington AP Henry A Kissinger's bid to be secretary of state faces no serious trouble despite a dispute over FBI wiretap summaries. Senators expect an early meeting between the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Eliot Richardson and William D Ruckelshaus to settle the issue. The committee sought access to summaries of wiretaps on 13 officials and four newsmen during 1969 1970. Richardson agreed to meet with the committee after pressure to disclose the FBI findings. Republican Leader Hugh Scott and Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield said the matter would be settled, with some information forthcoming. The committee set the 9:30 a.m. EDT meeting before the confirmation hearing. Also, Pleas Court orders the Campbell Board of Education to stop hiring replacements for striking teachers as interviews proceed and the Ohio Ferguson Act is invoked.
