In Jackson Mississippi, Thomas N Harkins and wife welcome quadruplets to join their nine children. The quads born Saturday night at St Dominic's Hospital weighed 3 3 and 4 11 pounds with three look alike and doctors say fraternal quadruplets.
In Maracaibo doctors report three day old quintuplet boys in satisfactory condition after a near two month prematurity. The mother Maria Cuervo de Prieto 34 and father Efren de Prieto 39 are both divorcees with other children, and the quintuplets weight between 3 pounds 1.4 ounces and 4 pounds 3 ounces each. The babies began on skimmed milk and incubator support.
Gov. James A. Rhodes announced the nine appointees to the Ohio Board of Regents created to craft a master plan for higher education. Nominees include executives from Owens-Corning, Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Ford Brothers Petroleum, and Cincinnati Gas and Electric, among others, subject to Senate confirmation. Also reported, rescue workers found Carl Dockery's body after a 24 hour mine search in Murphy North Carolina.
Investigators from the West Virginia State Police and the sheriff’s department probe an abandoned blood splattered car found on Route 2 near 16 Mile Creek. The vehicle, towed to Point Pleasant, contains a registration in the name of Douglas Fleming Morris Il and an employment application blank for Joseph Mill Co Morris dated Sept 7 1963, along with shoes bearing Fleming’s name. In New York former President Harry S Truman opposes tax cuts until the budget balances.
Clifford Ronald Rhodes 27 of Racine Route 2 drowned Saturday morning in the Monongahela River near Pittsburgh after falling from an Elk Towing Co barge pushed by the Bingo. Body recovered under the Glenwood Bridge. Survived by wife Irene Parsons two daughters Corena 5 and Rebecca 3 weeks father Roy Rhodes four brothers and four sisters. Funeral services Tuesday 2 p.m. at Ewing funeral home burial Letart Cemetery.
In downtown Vientiane, two hour clashes between right wing and Pathet Lao forces left a soldier dead and another wounded. Secret Service agents seized about 400000 in counterfeit $20 bills from a printing shop west of Delaware Ohio in a raid described as the largest counterfeiting haul in the area. Richard E Rowlands 34 was arrested and charged with manufacturing counterfeit notes and operated the private printing business in the rear of his basement home near Ohio 172. Rowlands acted alone officials said and none of the notes had entered circulation. The notes would have caused trouble if passed due to their workmanship though paper quality was poor.
Wayland Osborn, 29, died from a deputy’s bullet after a gunfight with more than a dozen Muskingum County officers at Hopewell Rt. 1. His family fled the home as he fired at responders before taking cover behind a garage door.
