Ex Buchtel Woman Dies Of Injuries

Gladys Rife 45 of Trimble formerly of Buchtel died after an automobile struck her on Route 13 in Trimble Saturday night. Fred Lee Crabtree of Morristown swerved to avoid her, witnesses said. She died at Sheltering Arms Hospital. Surviving are eight siblings, a mother, and multiple step-siblings. Funeral at Buchtel Methodist Church Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial Culp Cemetery.

Ohio Death Toll Tops Nation Over Labor Day Weekend

The Associated Press reports Ohio suffered 24 traffic deaths during the Labor Day weekend, the highest total in the nation. The toll included six drownings and two other accident fatalities, compared with last year's holiday period in Ohio.

Lloyd Reed Russell, 32, added to the FBI ten most wanted list. The Midwest robber, linked to several prison escapes, was the last at large from the Marquette prison break of May 22 1962. He is a Youngstown Ohio native with facial scars and a detainer shooting record.

DAYTON Ohio record setters at the three day National Aircraft Show conclude their glory may be brief as plans in the experimental stage threaten to break new marks within a year. Old records fell over the holiday weekend under about 200000 spectators. Four new world records emerged on the closing day from preshow runs not announced until yesterday. Cool cloudy weather kept preshow marks from being surpassed before a final day crowd near 50000.

Tobacco Can Key Opens Ironton Jail

Lawrence County Sheriff Carl E Rose said three men held for the grand jury escaped by picking the jail lock using a key made from tobacco cans and adhesive tape. The escapees were Robert Barnett of Pittsburgh and Eugene Melon of Peoria Illinois, charged with breaking and entering, and Hasket Prater of Ashland Kentucky, charged with firing a bullet into a motorboat and wounding Dorothy Culbertson of Ashland.

Bandits fleece restaurant owner in Saugu s weekend robbery

Two masked bandits entered a Sau gus restaurant during the Labor Day weekend and fled with a paper bag they believed held receipts. The bag contained two sandwiches prepared by the owner for a snack.

Train Kills Ex-Hocking County Woman

Funeral services were held today in New Lexington for Mrs. Harry Goodman 47 of Long Beach California formerly of Murray City and Hemlock. Doris Matheny of Murray City died Saturday in Paris after a freight train struck her auto near Paris. Fire Kills 19 In Tenement

Chicago officials investigated a South Side four story tenement fire that killed at least 18 people and left about 150 inside when it broke. The dead include five women four men and nine children all Negroes with nine family members among the victims. Debris removal will take days as fire department building department and coroner probe the cause and an inquest was set.
