Rhodes and comedian Bob Hope led a parade to a gala reception at the county fairgrounds as Armstrong mingled with old friends and 2000 cheering teens. He said he would stay in the space program and was blunt about no political ambitions. The humid day produced a sweltering, festive scene with souvenirs and a carnival atmosphere.
