Proposed Merger of Two Athens Banks Studied
The Bank of Athens NBA and the Athens National Bank seek federal review for a merger to create a larger local bank. The U S comptroller has accepted the application but final approval will take months with federal agency investigations ongoing. Both banks aim to retain employees and keep operations in the current Athens National Bank building. The banks trace back to 1865 and 1905, with new ownership by the Lindner brothers after family control by the Davis family.
