Two Army Heroes to Receive Medal of Honor

President Eisenhower arranged to award the Medal of Honor today to two Korean War veterans. Infantry 1st Lt. Emiaiai F. Wilson, 33, of Vancouver, Washington, and M Mize Ola L. Mize, 23, of Gadshen, Alabama, were slated for presentation at the Summer White House after the President’s return from Fitzsimons Army Hospital where an annual physical was conducted. Mize is the 70th and Wilson the 72nd Korean War veteran to receive the medal.

Wilcum Inn Invites Robbers Watch After Break-ins

Frederick Maryland report describes Wilcum Inn run by Charles Wilcum and his three sons enduring six earlier break-ins. Since a watch was set 19 months ago the store has been entered three times with three men captured each time and one attacker shot dead about six months ago. The latest captives face charges for breaking and entering. One suspect wounded by shotgun fire Sunday.

Joseph Zitnik aged 68 died after a 20 foot fall from a ladder at his Youngstown home. The retired steel worker suffered a fractured skull and fractured neck in the accident yesterday.

Traffic Mishaps Trim Labor Day Death Toll in 1950s Survey

The Associated Press reports 347 traffic deaths and 99 other fatalities during a 78 hour Labor Day period across Ohio. Drownings approached traffic deaths with 11 recorded, while total accidental deaths neared 500 nationwide. President Eisenhower credited driver caution for lower traffic casualties than predicted.

One Billionth Animal Sells for $1 at Chicago Stock Yards

The one-billionth animal to arrive since the stock yards opened on Christmas Day 1865 sold for one dollar per pound. An 1180 pound Hereford steer owned by Bert Fevold of Humboldt Iowa fetched $1180 and was to receive a check from William Wood Prince, president, of the Union Stock Yards. Current market price stands at about 27 cents per pound.

Premiums Cut 2 Million for Vehicles in Ohio

Ohio policy holders will save about 2 million dollars annually on auto damage coverages effective next Monday. Private passenger 50 dollar deductible collision premiums drop about 3 to 4 percent overall, with some areas unchanged. The 100 dollar deductible average collision premium falls about 19 percent, varying up to 21 percent in some territories. Jackson Mississippi launches a special session to back a constitutional amendment allowing abolition of public schools. Woman Fatally Shot at Dragnet Screening in Fort Worth

In Fort Worth Texas a woman, Miss Alice Blackwell age 38, was shot and died after collapsing from a bullet fired during a Dragnet thriller screening. Police questioned a 46 year old man identified as her companion who said a pistol slipped from his pocket and fired. He was released after questioning. The audience fled but there was no stampede and the film continued.

Atlantic City witnesses a pageant clash as Violet Fuchs claims Miss Connecticut title from a rival contest run by Alfred Patricelli. Dorothy Anne Hopkins is officially recognized by the Connecticut Junior Chamber of Commerce. Preliminary judging begins tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s crown.

United States Protest at UN Over Siberia Air Attack

Nationalist Planes Hit Red Ships

Chinese Nationalist warplanes struck along the China coast and the Defense Ministry said a Red gunboat, over 100 wooden junks, and five motorized vessels were damaged. Gas fumes blamed for most deaths in Shannon crash

The coroner told an inquest that 25 victims trapped in the Dutch KLM liner cabin died of asphyxiation from gas fumes after the crash at Shannon Airport Ireland. One survivor died later in hospital, Mrs Caroline Platt of New York City, while two bodies remained unrecovered.
