Council Opens Taxi License Field Causing Driver Flurry

The Middleport village council voted to broadly open taxi license applications sparking activity among cab drivers. In 1949 August, Clara Jordan and Harold Trowbridge bought the G I Cabs and B M Cabs, forming G L Cab Co. September saw 11 licenses granted to Jordan Trowbridge and Ernest Burton’s sons Elmer and William. Burtons split from the Jordan-Trowbridge setup, creating a Lyons Pool Rooms dispatch office and 24 hour service. Elmer Burton then left the partnership. At council's Tuesday meeting William Burton applied for a taxi license, the only applicant with a complete car inspection report. Applications were due September 1.
