New 1946 AAA Program Aims at Soil Building in Athens County
County Chairman Irvin Wolfe says the 1946 AAA Program will exceed prior efforts in meeting soil-building and water conservation needs. The plan allocates a definite county budget to support soil building on farms, with county and community committees choosing practices to fit the budget and maximize results. Township committees will begin early next year visiting farms to tailor practices to each field, restoring soil fertility after wartime emphasis on food production.

Leaders Addressed by 4-H Founder at Athens Grange Hall
Advisors of boys and girls 4-H clubs heard A B Graham father of 4-H Club work discuss youth value. He noted that when youth gain recognition in worthwhile effort, good results follow and cited a Probate Court judge who never had a 4-H member in his court. Graham started out-of-school projects in 1902 Clark County and later served 11 years in the Extension Service in Columbus and 22 years in USDA Extension Service in Washington, now retired in Columbus. Advisors recommended continuing winter activities, a county picnic between June 15 and July 15, a county-wide skating party, earlier enrollment next spring, and greater emphasis on demonstrations and interclub activity.
