Market for Ginseng Is Affected by War
Logan J. M. Conkle of Logan ranks among the largest ginseng root buyers in Southern Ohio. He sourced from Columbus to the Ohio River, bought 218 pounds in 1936 and sold to New York dealers for shipment to China. Demand is light due to the Chinese Japanese war, and a local dealer holds stock awaiting a stronger market. The current price is 35 cents per ounce. Cultivated roots fetch less than wild harvests, as many buyers prefer roots dug from woodland plants.
