Officials Say Sponsorship Funds Lacking

Gallipolis county commissioners order County Engineer E N Leonard to halt all WPA road projects due to insufficient sponsorship funds. WPA labor totals about 400 men, with 150 slated for Flag Spring Road this week, but funds from gasoline and auto tag revenues are exhausted and borrowing would be needed to continue. Surge in unemployment adds 100 more families to Surplus Commodities program, now serving 700, as storage plans fail and clothing for children becomes urgent.
