Deputy Sheriff Toral Morrison recovered a watch alleged stolen from EB C Snyder of Charleston Road. Suspects Sonny Hill and Jerry Abbott reportedly sold it to Melvin Matheny who lives on Rocky Creek. Mr. Jones suffered an attack of stomach trouble Thursday night but he arrived at his office before noon Friday and went to work on last-minute details preparatory to the convening of the September term of court today.

Flood Wall Bonds Are Approved
City council may issue revenue bonds to finance a flood wall right of way between the Kanawha River and 15th Street and between the Ohio River and Crooked Creek. In 1941 voters approved the project by about three to two, with opponents later joining supporters. Bond payments would be levied on real estate in the protected zone with higher rates south of Sixth Street, and sheriff’s office collection would cover the levy. some personal-property contributors are anticipated.

Weather Won’t Break Heat Wave In Mason County
A four day heat spell ended with 97.4 degrees in Point Pleasant as August closes hot and dry. Cool nights eased the spell, drought persists, corn and fall pastures may suffer, Mason County farms record best year to date with income reports and drought notes. Labor Day weekend brought few incidents. two intoxication arrests and two escaped prison laborers captured near Pliny. A capacity Gallipolis First Presbyterian Church filled Sunday evening for a special service with Rev Lewis W. Gishler, former pastor now on vacation from Muncie Indiana. Others present included Rev Hugh L. Evans and Mrs Evans. The gathering featured a sermon on thanksgiving for world peace and a benediction by Rev Evans. Monday night a picnic for over 100 members honored Rev Gishler.

GALLIPOLIS The first peace time holiday since Pearl Harbor passed quietly in the locality with little traffic in the city Sunday and Monday. Sheriff Hatfield reported Monday night that no arrests were made over the weekend and there were no guests in the county jail for the past week.
