Capt. Charles Townsend will lecture on the War at Pleasanton Monday evening September 7. Local updates report recruiting efforts, farm and nursery ads, and Millinery openings. Reenlistment calls urge Fifers and Drummers for Lt Col Grosvenor’s regiment. Athens serves as recruitment rendezvous amid wartime campaign notes.
By invitation Col Grosvenor RK de Shearer and Dr Esqr will address the public on Saturday September 19 at 1 PM at Moore's School House Pratts Fork. The talk discusses sustaining government and soldiers in their efforts to quell the present rebellion.
Attendees heard Rev. Toles describe the Howard Mission in Bloody Fourth Ward New York City. The mission rescues homeless street children, provides washing feeding clothing and education, and sends them to homes in the West to become useful citizens. The report notes 1200 children saved in the past year and praises Christian benevolence supporting the effort.

Ann Stevenson reports from August 31 1863 that Vallandigham urged rebels to defend Vicksburg and notes loyalty testimo ny from Alabama and Tennessee. Observers doubt Chattanooga evacuation while fortifications appear active and reinforcements arrive amid a shifting campaign. Weather turns warmer after a cold spell.
