Athens County May Seek One Mill Levy for Child Welfare

A public meeting in the Athens Common Pleas courtroom backed a plan to place a one mill tax levy on the November ballot to fund county child welfare services. Officials argued current funding from 1947 costs and unpaid bills leave operations strained with about $7,900 needed for additional services, including boarding, supervision, and care for unmarried mothers.
