Brothers Fight Over a Dog in Nelsonville
In Snake Hollow near Nelsonville on Monday night twins Gunn and Ward Atkins quarreled over a dog. Gum Atkins fired a shotgun at Ward as he escaped, Ward stabbed Gum during a struggle. Gum was wounded badly, with abdominal injuries and a severed arm artery. doctors fear death. Authorities say Ward acted in self defense and no arrests have been made.

Large Attendance at Athens County Fair Ends With Notable Exhibits
The Agricultural Association of Athens County reports a record fair week with fine weather and large crowds. Exhibits span cattle, horses, mules, sheep, hogs, poultry, grain, household goods, canneries, horticulture, pastry, paintings, flowers, harness, stoves, and incubators. A Wednesday balloon ascension by Prof. Gillespie drew crowds, while Albany and Athens Juvenile bands provided music. Racing Thursday featured several exciting heats though lengthy delays between heats marred the program.

Editor Harris Stricken by Paralysis in Athens
Editor V. Harris of the Athens Journal suffered a severe stroke Saturday afternoon about 3 oclock while in his office. The left side was paralyzed from head to foot and he was moved to his residence on South Court street. He is slowly improving and may be out of work for weeks. this is his second attack, the first having occurred two months ago.

Death of Charles Smith in Chauncey Hotel
Charles Smith aged unknown died suddenly Sunday evening at the Shirkey hotel in Chauncey from uremic poisoning. He recently arrived from Poco West Virginia to work in local mines. The body was sent to Poco West Virginia with a Knights of Pythias escort. He leaves a wife and two children.

Woman Fatally Wounded in Accidental Shotgun Discharge
In Jerseyville Mrs. John Rath, about 30, was accidentally shot at home when her husband John Rath, cleaning a shotgun, reloaded the shell and discharged it. Doctors L Orr T A Cople treated her wounds. her condition remained serious but improving.

Death of Samuel Shaulis in Waterloo Township
Samuel Shaulis of Waterloo township died Monday at his home four miles west of Athens from a scrofulous affection. He was fifty, survived by a wife and several children. Funeral at Union church in charge of Rev. A. E. Black, burial in the Union cemetery. Fourteen years earlier an explosion maimed him, killing one of his children. doctors believe the death is indirectly linked to those injuries.

Will Lee, son of Dr. H. T. Lee, received a severe foot injury at the New Pittsburg Coal Company's mine in Buchtel while dumping loaded cars. An attempting switch of rails when horns failed caused the accident, with skin torn and blood drainage. he is recovering and no serious complications are expected.
