Eye Research Topic at Lions Meeting
Eye research was the topic at the Lions Club meeting hosted by Denver Gooding at the Hotel Berry Tuesday night. He urged the club to support public service through medical research and cited underfunding for prevention of blindness. Gooding noted Funds spent last year reach 125 million by state, federal, and private sources for rehabilitation of the blind, with only 400 thousand for prevention. The National Foundation for Eye Research aims to establish multiple laboratories nationwide devoted to eye research. District Governor Dwight Robinson announced the state convention in Cincinnati May 22 23 and 24 and the national convention in Mexico City June 25 26 27 and 28.

19 Named in Delinquent Tax Petition
A petition seeking 13509 dollars with interest for delinquent land taxes has been filed in Common Pleas Court by Edward H Lasch treasurer of Athens County against 19 residents of Athens County and the Division of For the Aged for the State of Ohio. The petition names residents of Canaan Township with overdue taxes and asks that the property be sold by the court to pay the delinquent amounts if payment is not made within the specified period.

About 900 parents and guests attended a schools open house sponsored by the PTA at the high school Monday night. Fast on His Feet Saves Fine in Brief Jail Threat
Lawrence Schofield, 51, of Akron, pleaded guilty to an intoxication charge before Mayor Prickle as a repeated offender. He received a $50 fine and costs and 30 days in jail, but was told the sentence could be suspended if he left town in 15 minutes. He fled the scene before the mayor finished speaking.

Sheriff Cruiser Damaged in Traffic Incident
City police reported minor damage after a truck driven by Karl N. Shafer of Chauncey backed into a county sheriff cruiser driven by Deputy Frank Joyce at Court and Washington streets. The patrol car was stationary at a traffic light. Shafer said he could not see the vehicle. Damage confined to a dented truck lid and bent antenna.

Air Force ROTC graduates face 90 days active duty call
Col John K Graham announced that February graduates of the University Air Force ROTC and seniors completing baccalaureate degree requirements between March 1 and March 23 next year with no prior military service will be called to active duty within 90 days after graduation. Spring 1952 graduate requirements are being set and the service notice will come at least four months before graduation or summer camp completion.

Jury Trial Postponed in Ellen Biddle Case
A jury trial against Ellen Biddle of North College Street was postponed after defense filed a motion for a bill of particulars.
