New Lexington driver Homer Carney 48 faces manslaughter charges after a Saturday night crash on Route 216 three miles north of Murray City killed Rev. Clifford McCabe 57 and injured nine others. The driver is hospitalized at Mount St. Mary Hospital. three passengers in Carney’s car and five others in McCabe’s auto were treated for injuries.
In the Taiwan blocked Quemoy crisis the Reds fired sporadically on the islands on an alternating day pattern. Nationalist sites reported limited shelling on Tatan Island and nearby areas while airstrips and docks remained largely spared. Nationalist lines on the mainland showed intensified fortifications and 560 building works along the Peichiao Peninsula as Red gunboats and craft moved near Amoy. The U S envoy said rumors of Taipei shrinking its 100000 man Quemoy garrison are groundless.

Edward Cardinal Mooney, Archbishop of Detroit since 1937, died Saturday in Rome from a heart ailment. Named a cardinal in 1945, he was born in Mount Savage, Maryland, and was noted for scholarship and administrative ability.

Two year old Marsha Bane of Lumberport West Virginia faces delicate heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic Hospital on November 21. Prisoners at Moundsville State Penitentiary collected funds and expect to raise over 1600 dollars after learning of her plight. Her father Harold is unemployed since July and her mother Mary notes Marsha has spent much of her life in hospitals.
Six more pigs were found dead on Willoughby Hill farm near Chester raising the death toll to 13 as officials seek the killer. Theories vary with reports of a bear roaming the area or dogs attacking livestock, and Everett Ridge, district wildlife supervisor, has been brought in to investigate.

At Panmunjom the United States rejected North Korea and Chinese claims to pull all American troops from South Korea. General Albert T. Wilson Jr. told NK Commander Kang Sang Ho the demand is rejected while China announced the final stage of its volunteers withdrawal.
