Cookies Evidence of Crash Cause in Fatal Route 50 Wreck
Hurtled through the top of his automobile, Bond Bartoe 25 of Fisher Station died after crashing on US Route 50 three miles west of Athens. He was found unconscious near a fence post with a cookie in his mouth and a half filled package of cookies in his pocket. State patrol traced the car for about 375 feet before it left the road and plowed into an eight foot ditch. The front seat lay under wreckage, suggesting a turnover before impact. Bartoe left a wife a six year old son and parents with two sisters and a brother. Funeral plans not yet completed.
