New York October 27 Judge Elbert H Gary chairman of United States Steel and president of the American Iron and Steel Institute at its annual meeting said normal conditions in the United States are not yet restored and demand extraordinary effort. He cited high living costs profiteering and labor disputes as relapses of war fever. He opposed canceling foreign debts lauded President Harding for his administration and warned of a growing labor shortage while urging broader publicity and a Washington conference on economic questions.
Judge Gary criticizes excessive laws that curb supply and demand and hinder industrial progress. He argues many statutes disrupt economic continuity and urges adoption of reasonable, constructive policies to restore continual prosperity.
