Gifts to War Fund Are Fifth of Quota
Athens County reports one fifth of its $25,570 National War Fund quota raised under chairman O G Houck. Nelsonville leads with half of its $3,000 goal, as early results show many reduced gifts from last year. Houck urges donors to match prior gifts and asks those not solicited to contribute generously, noting funds are needed for USO and allied agencies beyond victory in Europe. A National War Fund statement warns of morale challenges, continued private aid needs in liberated areas, and bigger tasks ahead for USO United Seamen service and War Prisoners Aid in the ongoing war and postwar relief.
