Wemmer Pleads Not Guilty in Defraud Case
George Wemmer of Jacksonville pleaded not guilty in LOUSTER on a charge of attempting to defraud. He was bound over to the grand jury under act 500 after arraignment before Mayor Andrew Allen. The case stems from an auto purchase by Wemmer and John Andreck in May 1930 with Colonial Finance handling payments. Andreck lived briefly at the Mavin home. a signed recommendation for Andreck to the finance company is disputed. The finance company later pursued Mr. and Mrs. Mavin via a promissory note. the mavins say they signed only a recommendation, a point corroborated by Wemmer. The note’s fate and possible court action against the mavins remain unsettled.
