Carl J. Baer told Elks Club business leaders the country must end capital labor fights and audit resources to cut living costs. He said capital is service not money and warned the farm decline drives national trouble, urging community audits and farm city balance.
New York on October 25 a federal official announced a 2 000 000 pound sugar reserve found by food administrator Arthur Williams would backstock upcoming supplies. Officials expect rapid release to ease the shortage.
Daylight saving ends with clocks set back at 2 am tomorrow. Congress previously passed a law to abolish daylight saving in the years ahead, though presidents vetoed it twice. Railroads will adjust timekeepers at the appointed hour, while the public loses the extra hour from spring.

Robbers forced entry into the Pendergrass hardware store in Chauncey Ohio late last night and stole rifles watches and ammunition valued at about one hundred dollars. Sheriff Parker Deputy McKinney and Acting Chief Ed Bolin of Athens investigated the burglary found by Mr Peter Pendergrass when the store opened this morning. Blounds were reported but no other articles were missing.
Seventy five percent of money raised in Athens stays locally with the Girl Scout drive, while about twenty five percent goes to national headquarters. Campaign workers started this morning and report fine progress at noon. Dr. Wilcox will address the joint church meeting Sunday evening at the Christian church.
London reports Captain Matthews from Australia completed a long air voyage, landing in Cologne on Thursday after departing Tuesday in an effort to fly to Australia.
Thomas Birge of Nelsonville was convicted of rape with consent of Emma Bateman. Jury returned verdict at 11 30 Friday night after a one day trial. Birge faces a twenty year term in the Ohio penitentiary.
Sir Thomas Lipton owner of Shamrock IV set to sail today on the Carmania to New York for business and to confer with the New York Yacht Club about the America's Cup race. Also notice for Troop 2 Boy Scouts of Athens to attend a Monday October 27 meeting at 7 p.m. with an Ohio History address by Attorney W. E. Peters.

The College Woman's club schedules a 4 PM meeting on Monday at the Central building on the Ohio university campus. All members are urged to attend as the club's future will be discussed.
In New York on October 25 a dinner in King Albert’s honor unfolded with a waiter failing to recognize the guest. An attendant helped identify the monarch who was seated in front of the head waiter by mistake.
Chicago, Oct 25 A divorce judge releases Mrs Margaret Galitski allowing her to go about publicly because she is deemed too beautiful to be confined at home. The ruling comments on social restraint and personal liberty.
W. G. Lee and L. E. Sheppard to meet Rail Director Hines on wage increase demands. Washington reports that railroad leaders will confer with Samuel Gompers and AFL officials about possible affiliation and support for steel and miners strikes. Committees from United Mine Workers and railroad brotherhoods met on nationalization plans. no definite action yet on endorsing miners demands.
Washington October 25. Senator McKellar Tennessee introduced a radical agitation bill. It targets anyone advocating overthrow of government or associating with such advocates, with fines starting at 6000 dollars or imprisonment from one to ten years. A jury could order deportation to a Philippine Islands portion set aside for this purpose.
The Messenger awards perfect scores for paper delivery to carriers in Athens over the past week. Honors go to Patrick Griffin, Dore Moorhead, Dave L. Worstell Jr., Max Lewis, and Verl Kenney.
Authorities say a robbery at Railway Express at the station netted about $50,000 in currency, stamps, and money orders. Detectives believe the thieves concealed the loot and may have hidden within Towne area, with officials promising to trace the culprits within a day or two.

Washington reports cotton ginned to October 18 totaled 4 879 round bales counted as half 55 575 for 1919 and 34 605 for 1918. American ginned to October 18 2 746 last year and Island cotton 1 791 compared with 10 583 for 1918.
