Mrs Helen Elwood Stokes former Denver society belle faces the divorce suit by her husband W E D Stokes the 73 year old millionaire Edgar T Wallace co respondent in the case will testify for Mrs Stokes Charles Erbstein Wallace's attorney and member of her counsel said he would produce documents to disprove Stokes charges that the defendant was seen at Wallace's New York love nest.
James C. Pain, 86, died in London, ending the career of the man credited with developing elaborate American fireworks spectacles. He arrived in Wheeling in 1879 and led the fireworks at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893.

The lightship at Cape Charles broke from moorings and was towed to Ports mouth by the cutter Manning. The Danish steamer Phoenix reported SOS calls from Westmoreland but no traces found by Cutter Kickapoo. A watch was set for the fishing boat Mable H. of Wildwood N J adrift in the Chesapeake with six men aboard.
