Joseph G. DuBois of Goldsboro North Carolina resigned from the Ku Klux Klan and testified before the House Un American Activities Committee saying loyalty to God and country comes before the Klan. He turned over unit records after earlier leaders refused to cooperate.
Attorney Arthur J. Hanes said he will drop bombshells before the Wilkins murder trial ends. FBI ballistics testimony linked a 38 caliber pistol to Collie Leroy Wilkins Jr. as Gary Rowe testified Wilkins fired six shots at Viola Liuzzo during the Montgomery to Selma pursuit.
In Key West Cuba refugees number in the hundreds as Fidel Castro vows to detain military age men while others depart. The report notes ongoing exodus during the regional crisis and Castro’s stance on mobilization.
Berlin reports the October Storm maneuvers by Warsaw Pact forces near the West German border. Neues Deutschland says a Polish airborne division was flown in for a combined parachute air transport assault landing.
