Belmont County Common Pleas Judge Ross Michener postponed sentencing pending a motion for a new trial.
MAEBASHI Japan The presiding judge in U S soldier William S Girard manslaughter case said he slipped his tongue during a court proceeding. Judge Yuzo Kawachi said his remark about not firing with intent was to ease Girard rather than influence verdict. Girard testified that his shooting story might reflect negligence or accident after firing two blank rounds to deter scrap collectors during practice on January 30.
President Eisenhower will discuss America health and medical needs in a nationwide radio address tonight from New York. The speech airs at 9:05 p.m. on all major networks with no television broadcast.
The Finn twins Charles and George attempted a citizens arrest on Superior Judge Kenneth N. Chantry on City Hall steps over a World War II plane dispute. Police persuaded one twin to surrender the handcuff key and the judge was freed. George received five days in jail for contempt of court, later released on habeas corpus.
